Hello,
I have a Maytag Atlantis Dryer (MDG8400AWW Series 23), and it is currently having problems. Whenever it is set to Intellidry mode, it will only work intermittently.
Sometimes the cycle will run through with no issues and it seems to work correctly. Other times however when I start the cycle it lights up damp for a fraction of a second, change to wet for a second or so, then fades away. It does this a couple of times, then stops altogether and does not advance the timer until the dryer is manually stopped. It seems to work better when the tempurature is set to air fluff, but I haven’t tested enough to confirm if it always works.
I ran a test a few days ago where I set the tempurature to air fluff, then started the dryer with nothing in it and the door open. When it started running it read damp, which from what I can tell is correct. I then placed a wet paper towel on the sensor in the drum and it immediately switched to wet. I did also notice that it switches from damp to dry toward the end of the cycle. This leads me to believe that it is somewhat working correctly.
I’m not sure if I should replace the moisture control board or the dryness sensor, or if it’s a completely different problem altogether. Since its intermittent, it’s a difficult problem to diagnose. If it helps, I can tell that the unit uses the combined moisture control board and chime board since it is a later series and I can tell it us using LEDs.
Clarification Edit: Further testing confirmed that putting it in air fluff doesn’t seem to make a difference. Sometimes when it is not working it will say damp for a half a second, then switch to and stay at wet for 20-30 seconds instead of the one second that I said above. It does this a randomly throughout the cycle, but since the timer only advances in the damp state, the timer barely moves.
Thanks,
- John
