Auto-Dry dries the clothes great, same on timer. The timer setting works however the Auto-Dry doesn’t. I removed and cleaned the vent and even when the vent is not connected the dryer fails to stop (left it on for a cycle in Auto-Dry with no clothes. Any ideas?

In timed dry the timer motor often gets power directly from the line whhile in auto modes it often gets power through the heating coil when the heating coil is shut off so anything that keeps the heating coil on will stop the timer from advancing.
Check the heating coil.
Unplug the unit and both wires to the coil.
Check it with a meter, should be around 10 to 12 ohms.
Then check from each side of the coil to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms (open). If not the coil may have sagged or broken and is touching the case. This can cause it to run all the time and the thermostat cannot shut it off.
Also some units have a moisture sensor (Two metal strips) and if this is dirty the unit will not advance in auto mode as it thinks the clothes are still wet.
