Maytag: Big noise and how to get front off?

I know the front comes off the dryer because I had a repair guy come out a few years ago. We’re trying to avoid the expense of that this time, though.
So:

  1. What would cause a big noise when drying?
  2. I’m guessing the front would need to come off. How do you do that?

About 2 inches from the corners, between the top and front panel are clips. Use a putty knife (or something similar) to release these clips and raise the top like a car hood. At the bottom of the front paenl are 2 screws remove those lift up on the front a little and remove, make sure to disconnect any wires to the door switch.

What kind of big noise?

It changes. It’s kind of a deep whumping, sometimes with thumping and a bit of grinding thrown in for good measure. It goes away a little bit sometimes if we only dry half a load.

We’re not sure what to do when we get the door off, but it seemed to be a good idea at the time. We’ll wait to hear from you, if you’re willing to help us further.

Once you get the front off remove the belt and drum, make sure you look at the belt confiuration - it make it go back together easier.

Is sounds like the rollers in the back for the drum need replaced, probably the shaft as well.

And while you have it apart vacuum it out really well, helps keep down on any possible lint fires.
