Maytag Bravos stopped working and I hear a humming sound

My Maytag Bravos MVWB300WQ1 stopped working in mid cycle. All buttons and lights are working. I unplugged/plugges back in, turned machine on and off and is still not working. I am hearing a humming sound. What could it be?

Hi.

Most likely you have there a stocked drain pump. It’s underneath on the right side. Remove it and check inside.
On my experience it’s better to replace it, even if you would be able to clean it.

I have a Kenmore with the same problem and from my research and the people I spoke with, most are saying it is either the motor or the timer. I just posted my problem on here also. My washer filled and went through the wash cycle and when i went dow to change the clothes, it was just making a quiet humming sound and i could smell a little bit of what smelled like electrical burn. I tried all the other cycles to see if it would work, and no luck. It did go on the agitator once more after a while of taking it apart, but after trying a different cycle, nothing but the humming and the humming is coming from the top part of the washer by the timer and switch buttons. Don’t want to invest in non-returnable parts unless I know for sure it’s the right part

Hi Simon-
Not sure if you were asking me the model # of my Kenmore, but it is 110.27822790 Series 80. It only got as far as the wash cycle. Never rinsed or finished the load. We had to wring out the clothes with a tub full of water and siphon the water out with a garden hose. He did touch the motor and says he got a shock, so I was thinking it may be the timer. Have to take the volt meter to the different parts i suppose to see if there is current running through them?

Pry off the end caps, remove two screws and lift the control panel.
You’ll find the wiring diagram at the back.
Unplug the lid switch and check the continuity between two outer wires.(with lid closed).
No continuity - replace the lid switch.
Remove two clips and remove the cabinet.
Install the jumper wire at the lid switch plug.
Start the washer on"spin".
If the motor is humming - check wire harness at the motor switch and timer.
Remove the drain pump from the motor shaft and check if it’s not jamming the motor.
Turn washer off and check the motor capacitor (info is on the capacitor).
Those are most common things. Then there are motor , selector switch,timer. The diagram should explane how to check it.

Thank you so much for all of your help and info. As soon as we narrow down the problem per your advice, I will surely let you know how it went. This will hopefully be our weekend project so I will respond sometime next week on the status. We will also need to wait for whichever part to ship out. Thanks for all of your help. Turns out, it was a rogue sock that got sucked up under the agitator and made it’s way to the pump where it lodged itself. Pulled it out with some needle nosed plyers and viola! Washer is working great. Strange thing is, the sock doesn’t belong to us, it was a friends kids sock who forgot it when she spent the night…

[/INDENT]I had a ‘humming noise’ when water was supposed to be expelled at the end of the cycle.

I took the pump out and took it apart. Turns out a bobby pin had worked its way all the way to the pump and had stopped it. Re-assembled and reinstalled the pump, tested it, and the machine works again!
