Maytag centennial dryer will not start

Hi there. I started the dryer and walked away. Realized later that it had been running longer than normal. Checked it and realized that the timer had not advanced and was still running. Turned timer to off, opened the door and it was not hot, had no burnt smell, but clothes were not fully dry. Now it will not even try to start. Did not know if faulty timer? About 18 months old to the day
