The washer runs through the entire cycle but doesn’t spin. We can open the door and the drum is full of water. We’re told that to fix this problem, we must replace the Motor Control Board, and the actual motor (as the new boards do not work with the old motors… Is that true?
This is a lot of money and work and we want to be absolutely sure that in our situation - to repair the spin cycle, we must replace the Motor, Motor Control Board, and Wax Motor…
Can you help us?

Chris,
If the machine fills and washes, it’s not likely you’ll need a motor, motor control board and if the door locks and the lock light illuminates, a wax motor either.
Now, a drain pump, spin enable switch,or off balance switch, could be the issue, based on your post.
You said the tub is full of water when you open the door. You’ll need to check the drain pump, tub to pump hose and drain hose for kinks, clogs, obstructions and operation. The washer has to drain, before it can spin. If the water level switch does not reset to empty, the main control board won’t allow the washer to spin.
The "spin enable switch 9 the switch farthest to the right on the door lpck assembly), has to have a "closed" circuit, when the door is closed and locked. No circuit on the yellow and red wires at the main control board, indicates the door is open and the washer won’t spin.
You have three off balance switches around the tub exterior( 1, 3, and 5 o’clock positions) If a switch is bad(open circuit) loose or broken wire etc. The tub will not spin, but it will usually rock back and forth, attempting to "re distribute" an off balanced load.
You should probably start by checcking the drain pump and hoses, based on your post information.
Good Luck,
