My Maytag Performa PYE2000AYW suddenly stopped with a loud thud and a very strong burning smell was coming from it. I quickly cut the power at the breaker box, unplugged it and removed the contents, which were dry. The lint trap was cleaned and I checked to make sure the duct was clear at both ends, which it was. I’m hesitant to power it back up. This unit is probably 10+ years old and the only repair I’ve ever had to do was to replace the fuse about 5 years ago. Is it worth trying to fix or time to go shopping? By the way, does the 2000 in the model number indicate year of manufacture?
Here are your parts includes a wiring diagram.

A lot depends on the type of burning smell.
If it smelled like plastic or electrical then odds are the motor was making the smell.
If it was like lint overheating then it may be a simpler fix, perhaps just a broken belt.
Try turning the drum by hand, it should turn fairly easily.
If not you will have to open it up and find out why.
Check the rear support rollers, the front support, the drum seals, the idler wheel, the motor etc.
My gut says that the motor probably seized as you did not hear anything unusual before it failed. The other items usually squeak or scrape before failing.

Depends on how good of shape it is in and are you happy with it.
The motor is approximately $175 so is an expensive item to replace butt still a lot less than a new unit. Also I would check what other parts have to be replaced to do a basic overhaul on it. No use replacing the motor if you have to open it up again in s couple months because the belt broke etc.

I do not think so. they made a whole2000 series of units with different options.
