Maytag Plus not cool enough

Hello,

I’m new to the forums (obviously) and i need help with my refrigerator. I Have had it for about 9 years. the bottom gets nice and cold on both sides but the top doesn’t get cold. the bottom of the freezer gets down to 20F and the top of the freezer gets down to 40F. the bottom of the fridge gets down to 40F and the top is up at about 58F. I did do some looking around on this forum and am hoping that it is a circulation issue rather than the major parts that would make me buy a new unit. I have always been a do it yourselfer but mostly cars, never hope appliances. I haven’t done any checks other than buying a thermometer to see what the temps were actually doing inside. I do have a DMM to do some checks and was planning on trying to take the panel off inside the freezer to see if the fans were running but haven’t yet. Thank you all in advance for any suggestions.

Here are your parts, includes a wiring diagram.

You are going in the right direction.
First ting to check is if the evaporator/freezer fan runs.
It should be on whenever the compressor and it’s fan is on.

Check that the condenser/compressor fan runs and that the condenser coils etc are clean.
Check the rear and kick plate vents are clean.

If you remove the cover in the freezer and the fan is running but the evaporator coils are heavily iced/frosted over, you have a defrost problem.
If this is the case just add to this post for info on how to troubleshoot this.
Do not defrost the coils, it is easier to troubleshoot if they are frosted up.

Does the compressor cycle or is it on all the time other than during defrost?

If it cycling then it could be a control problem.

Ok thank you for your reply. it is good to know that i am on the right track. I will do some checking on those things mentioned and get back to you
