Washer goes through all the processes of filling and spinning, but when it should agitate it makes a loud sound and does not agitate. Removed the agitator assembly in the tub and the threads look fine. What should I be looking for next?
Thank you,
Hi.
Most likely the problem is with the transmission.
Replacing it is not the easiest job in the world. If you are mechanically inclined and own tools you should be able to do it.
Check the drain pump, belt and motor pulley. You may need to replace them too.

Thank you. Post the results.

My Maytag is having a similar problem. The washer fills, drains and spins but will not agitate. It does not make any loud noises (other than in normal operation). I checked the main pulley on the bottom of the tub and it moves freely. The belt is 14 years old (i think:confused: ). The machine was under an extended warranty for an additional 5 years and it was serviced every year, but i am not sure if the belt was ever replaced. I have read that it may be an issue with the transmission, but how can i be sure?? If it is the transmission, time to get a new washer.
