[FONT=Verdana][SIZE=2]Question regarding: Maytag LAT9593AAL Top Loading Washing Machine
The washer stopped spinning, but will still pump out water. I did some investigation, but I’m not sure where the problem lies. I went to a troubleshooting website that lists multiple parts that could be bad, and I’m not sure how to isolate which it is.
I first noticed this problem when I checked my laundry and smelled a burning smell (the belt) and noticed that everything was still soaking wet, because the machine hadn’t spun everything.

Switch is fine. I looked at the belts, and the transmission/agitator belt was a little old/loose. So I replaced it with another. During the process, I removed the tub to see if there was anything obviously wrong beneath (I’ve done this before for another project, so it was familiar and quick for me). Once I did that, I turned it on and the shaft spun easily. When I put the tub back into place (with the new belt), the tub will spin for 4-5 seconds, but then the motor kicks off and starts smoking (as if it has too much load on it). This happened repeatedly.
Also, there are no unusual sounds or loud noises when it’s spinning.
I must note that the tub seems much harder than normal to spin, as if something is seized up somewhere. But it’s obviously not totally locked as I can still spin it. Let me know where to start, or what might be the problem. I have the parts diagrams, just need to know what might be the cause, or how to isolate things further. I don’t think it’s the motor. Thank you for your help. It’s somewhat old, but otherwise a nice washer that I’d hate to see go to the graveyard.
Please let me know if there are any other (inexpensive) parts that frequently go bad that I should replace as preventative maintenance during this repair.
