I had no problems with this washer until this week when it began to act as if it were possessed. It began to beep randomly and the lights on the touchpad started blinking and cycling through the spin cycle options. Also when certain cycles are selected the Super Wash button remains dimly lit as if selected. This cannot be unselected. The washer doesn’t even have to be powered on or washing anything, when a few times it just started beeping and flashing the lights. I had to pull the plug. The amount of time display seems to change too every time it beeps and cycles as well. I took the back cover off of the the control panel and checked all the connections to the control board, there was no dirt, water or dust inside. As I was checking the connection I realized that if i flick the ribbon that connects the console to the control board that it also changed the spin cycle options although it was not loose at the board end. I am unsure if this is a bad console or a bad control board. Is there anyway I could check either or both to properly diagnose the correct part that needs replacing? I’ve got a very similar problem as outline by orodim99rush back in 8/9/2010. My TL model FAV6800AWW display will suddenly start cycling through the spin options with a beep for every step. If the machine was sitting idle you have trouble getting it to start washing. This also happens during a washing cycle with the only problem of some times leaving the clothes overly wet. I never saw a conclusion to the orodim99rush tread. Was it a control board problem or a switch and connector problem? I hate to buy a board and not solve the problem. By the way, I not having good thoughts about the Maytag design department.
Most owners never follow thru on troubleshooting this issue.
I’m a technical owner not in the appliance repair ind. and I have never gotten an owner to work with me to solve this issue and there have been a good number of this failure scenario type.
If you have a DVM I would have you measure +12VDC on the Control board and make sure that is good and not possibly being pulled down by corrosion issues at the TDS 3 pin plug.
If you throw in a new Console and Control Board (CCU) all bet’s would be off and I’m not sure that would solve the problem.
I have known good Consoles and Control Boards. If +12VDC at the Control Board was good then I would swap out both those parts. This can be expensive but I believe this site offers parts return.
What is you background for doing some troubleshooting?
Maybe the repair techs on this forum can offer some troubleshooting guidance.

I had taken the console apart and cleaned the ribbon cables the best I could and jiggled a few things around and when I put it back together it seemed to work a bit better. For the past 6 mo or so I have been using it as is. The machine still acts weird and beeps here and there for no apparent reason as well as several of the cycle options no longer are selectable such as the hand wash-delicate, bulky items and spin cycles. I guess I am just waiting for it to completely die so I can replace it with a new model. Spending 200 on a board and possibly another 200 on a console just doesn’t make sense on a 6-7 year old machine.

To put this machine into diagnostics mode, you will need to push the following keys "Enviro Plus" and "Spin Only" at the same time, for 3 seconds, or until unit beeps and display changes to 00. The machine can be in a cycle or just in the on state, but its best to do this while machine is not in a cycle.
After this is done, then you can put unit into a couple of tests that will allow checking the control board.
To test the panel membrane - or touch buttons, push "Presoak" then each individual button to see if it beeps and responds.
Press the same button to cancel that test and go back to diagnostics.
For control board input test - press "Super Wash" button … then push it again to exit that test.
For control board output / system check press "Delicates" … then push it again to exit that test.
This can be found on the paper tech sheet on the inside of the unit… either behind panel or on the inside of unit taped to wall - left or right. Or at the bottom panel inside.
To exit diagnostic mode, press Off or unplug unit for 20 or 30 seconds then plug in again.
I was going to mention the ribbon connector on the back. I have had similar problem. I found you need to pull out the ribbon connector. Now you will have to be careful here. There is a collar that helps to keep that ribbon connector in place. If you squeeze the top end and bottom gently of that securing plastic collar and work it loose it should come out. Now when both ribbon and collar are out, you need to determine how that plastic collar goes back in and after that slide that collar back over the ribbon connector about an inch down from the end of it. Now take that ribbon connector and try to gently fit it into the control panel gently. Make sure you get it in all the way. After that just slide up the plastic lock collar and snap it into place. It just sounds as though you have an electrical connection problem. Good luck…
