Maytag Washer - Will fill with water but that's it

I have a Maytag washer that was in the middle of the fill cycle when it quit working. It will not aggitate, drain or drain. The timer can be moved by hand but only the fill operation works. The on/off switch works. I read around the forum and thought it might be the lid switch since I found it jammed in and the spring broken. I replaced the lid switch on the board(whole board that the switch and fuse are on. I replaced the spring but it still does not run. I rplaced the timer about five years ago.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

JB

JB,

There are two switches in the lid switch assembly. Check both of them for continuity with the lid open and closed. Make sure they work according to the wiring diagram.

If both switches are good, adjust them as described in the attached file.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=42333&diagram_id=28438186

Thank you for the reply. I will follow the instructions. My question is if I manually push in the punger on the board should the cycle start or am I tripping the unbalanced switch? Is there another way to check if it is the switch vs the timer?

Thanks,

JB

If you’ll open the control panel then you can access and test both switches with the lid in both positions.

You have to measure 120 VAC between the NO terminal (where the black wires are connected) on the check switch (small one) and the washer chassis while the timer calls for wash and the lid is closed.

I installed the new board with the two switches. I adjusted it as you instructed. The timer still does not move and when I advance it it still only fills with water but no agitation, draining or spin.

How do I test the timer or do you think it is the lid switch?

Any ideas would be great.

JB

Open the control panel. Note the wires connected to the water level switch and remove them. Check for continuity between the terminals 7 & 16 on the water level switch while the washer is full of water.

If there is no continuity, replace the water level switch.

Unplug the washer. Connect the wires which were connected to the terminals 7 & 16 together. Plug the washer and give it a try. Post the results.
