Motor coupler

Does anyone have detail instructions on how to change the motor coupler in my Kenmore washer? I see it is broken but can’t see how to get to it. Already have the part. Also when I removed the three screws holding the motor on and pulled on it for it to only come so far, there was some oil that leaked out. So need to know how to put oil back in the motor too.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi DIYMom2

You have us a little confused because the motor is not held on with three screws, but with two clips, so we are not sure what you took off or why oil came out of it.

Anyway, here is a video which will show you how to change out the coupling, and if you can identify what you took off with the three screws maybe we can help you there.

Three screws do take out the transmission, and that is where oil is, so is that what you tried to take out?

Yes. I believe you are correct. It is directly beneath the wash drum. Thank you for the video tutorial.

I just went out to fix the washer after viewing the video and I have one problem. The very first step: There are no screws visible that would allow me to tilt the control panel open to gain access to the clips that hold the back on. Now what?

Ok, if the screws are not on the back, or under trim pieces then you apparently have a newer model that does not have the screws. In your case you need to insert a think flat putty knife under the console in the gap between the console and the top near each edges. This will release clips which hold the console down. Sometimes you have to push with a fair amount of force, but be careful not to scar your machine.

Be patient, it may take a little bit of trial and error to find them and release them, but that should do it.
