Hi Everybody,
I’m replacing the motor in my Maytag A606 washing machine. The new motor from Appliance Parts Pros comes with a jumper to connect the motor to the wiring harness on the machine. The problem is the wires on the jumper don’t match up color-wise with all the wires on the motor. Also a few of the wires on the jumper plug into the motor with no corresponding wire from the motor. The new motor is a 2 speed motor.
Is it safe to assume it’s correct the way it’s set up? The wires on the jumper do match in color to the wiring harness of the washing machine. I don’t want to screw up the new motor. It looks like the wires on the jumper can be rearranged to match the wires in the motor but I won’t try anything until I hear back from someone who knows what’s going on here.
Thanks,
Tommy

Tommy,
You’ve had the procedure all the time, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Your going the go wire color to wire color( brn to brn, wht to wht,rd to rd, etc.) between the jumper harness and the machine harness, then plug the black harness connector on to the motor switch.
Let’s verify everything first:
You should have recieved a 6 wire jumper harness.
from left to right
Your wire location in the connector should be :
1 brown
2 orange
3 yellow
4 red
5 black
6 white
Make sure you route the harness away from the moving parts,
plug her in and your on your way.
(everything sounded proper in your post)
Good Luck,

Good Luck,

Thanks for the advice, Joe. I got the machine back together and it works like a new one. It’s quieter than before and also seems more powerful. I ordered the roller glide kit also as the rollers were shot. I had to cut a piece of wooden dowel and insert it in the glide to hold the motor back so I could mount it after rebuilding the glide. The only thing I’m missing now is a motor cover or shield. The one off the old, original motor is metal and won’t fit on the new one. You don’t have an extra one lying around do you?

Tommy,
They (manufacturer) no longer make that style motor cover…
Here are a couple of part numbers:
[part]AP4025466[/part]
[part]AP4025082[/part]
The cover has a slot that you will need to slip onto the front flange, and you’ll need to drill a hole through the flange and use the screw to mount it properly to the cabinet flange.
Good Luck,

PS Don’t run that unit too long without the cover, a leak or spill will ruin that new motor.
