Very noisy rotating drum - replaced the drum rollers and added a new belt - was a lot quieter for a short time. I checked the dryer motor shaft when I replaced the rollers and when spun has a howling sound at the blower end shaft. I’ve checked with the local appliance shop and there is no replacement bearings for the drive shaft, I have to buy a complete new motor. The current motor is working, the dryer is working, but the noise is a killer. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tip. I removed the blower wheel, but in benchtesting the motor still have the high pitched noise. It sounds like the drive shaft is not lubricated at the blower wheel end. Can I put some grease or lubricant on the drive shaft? What kind is appropriate given the heat and revolutions? Or is it more appropriate to replace the motor?

Hi Tim,
Before replacing the motor you can try to lubricate the motor bearings with a regular SAE 10-30 engine oil.

Appreciate the timely and informative tips. After applying your expertise to the problem, I need to replace the motor. The 10-30 engine oil applied to the motor drive shaft at the bearings didn’t solve the squeak. oh well, off to this weekend’s project!
