About 2 weeks ago I noticed my fridge was no longer cold, but the bottom drawer freezer was frozen solid. The display panel that has default settings of 4 for fridge and 4 for freezer was displaying nothing for fridge and a 67 for the freezer. This seemed to indicate something was wrong but the codes were not documented anywhere, so we flipped the breaker and it reset to the 4 and 4. Not convinced it was resolved I checked it and saw that the fridge was still not cold. I checked the freezer and the interior back panel had a frozen over with solid clear ice covering the air vents completely. We applied warm towels and removed all of the ice and the fridge returned to a cold temp.
Now two weeks later I keep hearing the fan running all of the time and there is frost building up on the back panel. I can hear fan(s) wind down and up when I open and close the door. This used to only happen on occassion and now it is constant.
I called LG and they say there is no problem, but based on what I find on the internet it appears this is a common issue. I have scheuled a repair person, but am not sure if I should just cut my losses.
- Should I remove all food and let the inside ice thaw or attmpt to remove the covering on the freezer back to thaw the ice we presume is present around fan?
- Is this problem repairable or a design flaw?
- It is something we can DIY as it does not seem that the LG warrenty maybe worth the paper it is printed on?
- If so how much is the part or parts?
