My machine made a series of loud noises, electric or rubber smell - machine will fill, drain, but will not agigate. What do I need to replace - belt looks good.
Is it noisy when it is supposed to be agitating?
If the sifter coil is bad the agitator will not turn however the entire tub will turn. This will cause the washer to hit a bracket at the bottom causing it to be noisy when it is washing. Remove the front and watch it when it should be agitating and if the entire tub turns back and forth the sifter coil is bad. For more on this use this link GE Washer Repair Guide
This will not explain the smell so if this is not the problem post back with more info.
No, it doesn’t make any noise. The only noise it made was when it made those loud noises (clanking/crunching sounds). It will fill and go through all cycles, and I can turn the agitator by hand, but it will not do it on it’s own.
It may have a fault code. Look on top of the motor and you should see a blinking light that indicated a fault code. If you don’t see the light the fuse may be blown. Also the lid switch may be bad. This page will help http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/GE-washer-repair.html

Also if you get it back going check the sifter coil as i said above.
:o OK, I will get this checked and get back with you. Thanks.
I ordered a fuse and evertyhing seemed to be working. No lights blinking indicating anything major (motor, etc), now it will agitate, spin, but the water is not really draining tfrom he clothes. They are very soggy. It is as if the spin is not fast enough - even though it sound as if it is.
Try clearing the fault code even despite not seeing blinking lights turn the washer off. Then disconnect power for about 20 seconds. Next, reconnect power then open and close the lid five or more times within 12 seconds in the first 30 seconds of power-up.
It is how you clear all the codes on this washer. Assuming the model number is wwse5240goww I took one of the Ws off the front of the model number.
