Oven powered off bizarrely

Hi,

Our oven recently stopped working in a rather odd manner. It started by beeping every 30 seconds or so while flashing "OFF" on the display. I couldn’t get it to stop by pressing any of the buttons, so I finally unplugged the oven. When I plugged it back in, it appeared to be dead. The display is blank/dark, and it seems unresponsive to any button presses. The gas burners do work and ignite, however.

I called Frigidaire, and the person I spoke to said it could be either the wiring harness or the control panel. He didn’t seem to have much technical knowledge, though, and sounded like he was reading from a troubleshooting database. I don’t know anything, but it seems unlikely to me that the wiring harness is at fault – if a wire was bad then wouldn’t the oven have just shut off instead of beeping and flashing "OFF"?

So with that in mind, can anyone suggest what could be wrong with the oven and what I can look at to troubleshoot it? I have a multimeter and am ready to start testing things, but I’m not sure where to begin.

Thanks!

Well, when I moved the oven away from the wall, there was a schematic taped to the back of the oven! I took off the top housing to expose the control panel, checked the voltage at the transformer inputs, and it was 118 volts.

According to the notes that accompany the schematic, if the transformer is getting power then the control panel should be replaced. Before spending $250 on a new control panel, can anyone suggest anything else to try? If I knew what the pins were, I could test the transformer to see if it’s putting out enough voltage. Or is this truly a case where you just have to replace the whole board?

Thanks for any advice!
