Oven stopped working after power outage

Hi everyone,

I have a Magic Chef Wall oven, 9844XPB, and have a bit of a strange - to me - problem. It was working fine (aside from its unpredictability when trying to keep temperature, but I will save that for another thread), but I had to do a bit of electrical work in the kitchen. I cut the main power at the fuse panel, did the work, and resumed power. The display works fine, as does the light, but the oven will not turn on or heat up. I can hear a relay click when I turn the knob, but nothing happens. Where should I look first? I have the diagram and parts list from this site, but I would like some opinions from people who actually know what they are doing.

Many thanks in advance!
Carmine

Sounds like you do not have 240 volts going to the oven.
The light and the control pane both work off half the line (120 volts) so you may be missing the other half.
Check it with a meter.

PS I do not have the wiring diagram but this is my best guess.

Your guess was correct. My apartment building was built circa 1915, and had the electric upgraded at least three times. When I bought it two years ago it needed another upgrade (as a condition of the sale the glass fuses needed to be completely removed). The electrician that the previous owner hired installed three fuse panels in its place (one in place of the glass fuses, one underneath it, and one in the kitchen behind the refrigerator) and charged her $7,000 to do so. Since the outlet I was replacing was behind the fridge it is very likely I tripped it while snaking myself in or out of there, or when I reinstalled the fridge.

In any case, thank you. If you are ever in this neck of the woods I owe you a beer.

Glad it worked out.
