My Tappan range model #30-3152 23/02. Serial number is VF25210283. When I turn the oven on I smell gas for a few minutes then it goes away. It takes a long time to bake. I looked at some of the posted threads and it was suggested that it may be the igniter or thermostat. Is this the problem? If so,should I change both or how do I troubleshoot? I have looked for a repair manual but have been unable to find one. Any ideas. Thanks.

This is not a thermostat problem. It is an ignitor problem. The ignitor is weak, and that is why you smell the gas, because it is not strong enough to ignite the gas all the time, and sometimes, it does not open the gas valve. Replace the ignitor, and you will be baking in no time. Tom %url%
