Oven temp problems

I have a GE Profile electric range. The oven takes a long time to heat up to the requested temperature. It then beeps, but it is really not at the right temp. I have 2 thermometers set inside that say they are at maybe 325 when the oven is set at and the display says it is at 400. The oven eventually heats up to 400, so I can’t just reset the thermostat. I had a silicon liner in the bottom and thought that might have screwed things up, but i removed it and still have the same problem. Any ideas?

Tropil,

If the set temperature is reached in a 15 to 20 minute time span, your temperature is in range and the control is working.

The pre heat segment on electronic control cooking products. are based on 2 things.
a) Time , usually 10 minutes from the start of the cycle, regardless of temperature.
b) Temperature, the first time the sensor reaches the resistance, based on the temperature set, the control will sound.
Both of these procedures allow for a "temperred" oven, not a true "pre heated" oven.
Depending on the selected temperature, as long as you have a consistant and proper temperature in 20 to 30 minutes, your oven and control are fine.

Hope this was helpful,

Thanks,

Joe,
That’s really interesting. I have a GE wall oven that comes to temperature in 10 -15 minutes or so. This range’s digital display says it is at the right temp but it can take a long time, maybe up to an hour, to actually be where the display says it is. It does not later go over the set temp. I seldom use this oven (even before this issue) but think it worked fine for the first year, which is why I thought something was broken. Do you have any ideas of what to try if it takes an hour to heat and why it would say it is at temp when it isn’t even close? Thanks!

Tropicl,

You put a twist on it, no it should not take and hour to reach temperature.

So there’s two things to check, first make sure you have 220 to 240 VAC at the outlet and teminal block of the range, with the range in a bake or broil cycle check for 120 VAC from each outer terminal to the center terminal at the terminal block, if all’s OK replace the oven Temperature Sensor,

I think that will get you back to new status.
