Hi All-
I’m stuck and could really use some help and expertise. I bought a condo and don’t know how old the Maytag (DG412) gas dryer is. It takes up to 3 hours to dry a load of laundry. I’ve looked into repair but Sears charges $75 just to come out and diagnose then the additional charge for parts & labor. I’ve looked at new Whirlpool models at Sears and they’re around $400-450 to replace.
Can anyone tell me if it’s worth it to have a repairman come out? I’m not sure of the age and so I don’t want to spend a fortune only to have another part break down soon and have to run this cycle again. Does anyone know what something like this could cost.
I looked into purchasing a gas dryer from Costco (they’re under $400) but they don’t haul away the old one and install the new gas connectors and kits that Sears tells me I have to buy because they won’t connect a new (gas) dryer to old connectors and vent hoses. I don’t know if I’m being taken for a ride! I would appreciate some advice as I’m new to home ownership and not sure what to do.
First off, check your vent hose from the dryer make sure there are n crimps in the line and no lint build up. Check all the way to the outside of your condo. If tyou don’t find anything there check inside the dryer, inside the fan housing.
Here’s your parts breakdown http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=27998
This is probably something you can fix yourself.
