On one knob of my Maytag stove top (MGC5430), the ignition switch and gas valve seem to be out of alignment, such that as I slowly turn the knob on, the igniter starts sparking, but gas isn’t coming out yet, and when I turn the knob a little more, the sparking stops, and the gas comes on. There’s a tiny overlap, so that sometimes it’ll actually be sparking when then gas starts flowing and the burner will ignite, but usually it just transitions between sparking without gas, to gas without the sparking.
