Things in the top shelf of the refrig aren’t cold and items in the top shelf of the freezer (above the ice maker) won’t freeze. Was fine about a week ago. Have turned the refrig to 9 and the freezer to 7 but it hasn’t changed anything. Also, when I want crushed ice I get cubes and the dispenser just SHOOTS ice out! Any ideas?
Is the evaporator fan (the fan in the freezer) running when the refrigerator isn’t in defrost?
I think so. Water is just DRIPPING from the ice bin now and there’s frost inside the freezer and on containers when there wasn’t before. To defrost, do I put the freezer to 0? But I haven’t done that, so freezer should not be warm.
I wasn’t trying to defrost the freezer: so are you saying it’s defrosting anyway and that’s why it’s doing this?
No. I’m saying it’s supposed to defrost on its own, but the symptoms you describe suggest it isn’t doing so.
I called a few repairmen, and most of them think it’s the defroster circuit or the motherboard, which sounds like what you said before. They also said that GE is notorious for this. So no fixing it on my own, darn it! Thanks for all your help!
