The oven light has burned out in my MER5755QAW Maytag Oven. I have my owner’s manual and it is telling me to hold the bulb/lense cover and slide the wire retainer off the cover.
I am looking at the bulb cover and there doesn’t seem to be a wire retainer on it. There is a silver plate behind it but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the cover at all.
What should be an easy fix, especially after working on the dryer, is actually not as easy as it should be.
Thank you, in advance, for helping me with this issue!
Looks to me that the lens should unscrew.
Sometimes they are a royal pain.
You could try warming the oven up some, then turning it off and trying with a pair of oven mitts. Problem with this method is that you will probably end up burning yourself.
I did try to just turn the cover since there didn’t seem to be a wire retainer. It moves a little to the left and/or right but then met resistance. I’ll try to heat the oven and see if that helps. Maybe there is something sticky holding it that I can’t see? Thank you for your suggestion!

No, they are just a pain to get out.
When putting it back on give the screws on the lens a light coating of cooking oil and do not screw it in too tightly.
All I can suggest is keep working at it.
Unscrew it as far as it will go, give the lens a couple tap with the end of a screw diver and see if it will unscrew a little further.
The alternative is to remove power from the unit, pull it out, remove the wires from it, depress the clips holding the socket in and pull the socket assembly out the front of the unit.
I am not sure that the clips holding the socket in will depress enough with the lens in place.
Note I am going to post this in the Tech Section, perhaps someone else has a trick to get this off.
I had the same problem…I used Gene’s suggestion of dripping some hot water around the glass lense…and it loosened up the lense and allowed me to remove it. Thanks Gene…great tip.

I tried warming the oven. It did not solve the problem. kmax
My Maytag Convection Oven is new. I can’t remove the lens cover to replace the oven light bulb. My manual says to turn the lens counterclockwise. It won’t unscrew.
I have tried spraying around the lens with water and degreaser. I have warmed the oven. I even pulled out the stove and got in the back of the light assembly. No luck. I have called my dealer. In the meantime,
using an oil filter wrench sounds like a good idea. kmax

How new is it?
If it’s less than a year old, do not force the lens. Wait for the dealer.
Thanks to Fstella. I ended up going to Autozone, paid $4.99 for the same oil filter wrench, and it did the job for me too, (and also scratched my finger in doing so. So wearing a pair of gloves would be highly recommended when operating the wrench). So, in the end, thanks to Fstella’s tip, a $4.99 wrench solved the stubborn oven light cover problem. Shame on the engineer who designed such a cover.
The mere fact of knowing that it unscrews, was all that I needed. I wore rubber gloves so that I would have a grip and that worked well for me. Come on Maytag, the very least you can do is have an up-to-date owner’s manual…
It’s nice that you force us to sign on. How about being able to logoff??? I don’t much like having and open signon so that you can gather my information.
We tried everything to try and remove the oven light cover and finally took the advice of one reader and used the oil wrench and was finally able to remove the cover. It was hard and this is ridiculous !! The manual said to unscrew the cover, note!! there are no threads in the receptacle !! I think Maytag wants you to call a repair man to replace an oven light?? I will not buy another Maytag appliance!! We bought a stove top, wall oven, dishwasher, side refrigerator and an Amana microwave/convection oven all from a Maytag dealer, the ice maker went out after less than a year in the side by side, the racks in the dishwasher rusted, the Amana convection oven quit working and now unbelievable trouble just trying to get out an oven light bulb. Crazy !!!
