Removing Stuck Outer Face Panel on KitchenAid

Learn from my experience  : Was following the (supposedly) easy steps to replace the detergent dispenser on Kitchen Aid model KUDP01DLWH0 when, after removing the 6 torx heed screws from the inside panel, the outer panel would not come off.

Tried all kinds of pulling and prodding. Looked back at instruction videos to see what I did wrong. Videos show panel comes off easily after removing screws. My panel would not budge.

After pulling edges away from each other, I discovered the problem. The factory had used a strong adhesive to glue the styrofoam insulation from the inner panel to the outer panel. Ended up taking a flat hacksaw blade and inserted between foam and outer door and "sawed" through the adhesive. Finally, after pulling hard again, the adhesive gave way.

Not sure why the factory used adhesive to keep the two panels together as removing the outer panel is near impossible if you don’t know about the adhesive.

Once panels were separated, the rest of the repair was a cinch and took more than 15 minutes. Just be aware of the "glue" in case you remove the screws and the panels do not come apart!
