I just received a replacement defrost heater (p/n WR51X10101) from AppliancePartsPros. According to their web site, this is a redesigned heater, with two elements side-by-side and wired in series(the original heater had only a single element). However, the new heater won’t fit due to interference from a refrigerant line on the left side of the evaporator coil. The new heater is deeper due to the extra element and hits the line before I can get the heater lined up with the screw holes. I tried springing the line to get the heater slid past, but could not move it enough without danger of breaking something. A couple of questions:
(1) Can I take one of the new elements and put it in my old bracket? My concern is that, since the new elements are in series, using only one element may cause the heater to draw too much current.
(2) Is the old single-element style heater still available? If so, what is the part number?
THANKS
