My heating element is caked with calcium and may have to be replaced. Is this something that can be done by me rather than having to hire a technician? It appears that the element just unplugs like the heating element of an electric stove, but your parts department is telling me that Kitchenaid has upgraded the part and is providing a computer board that must also be replaced. So, my question is: can I replace the element and can I replace the computer board without professional help? Thanks in advance for your response. Jose
You probably can if you now how to handle a simple tools.
Gene.
I looked at your control panel. Seems like an encoder with readout electronics.
I would unplug this encoder. If the fridg now works reliably and the temperatures go to the default settings of midrange, then this control may be bad/intermittant, but I would suspect a bad motherboard AP4436216.
If the fridg will not work with the control panel removed, then I am wrong. I just assume it functions like a normal encoder with knobs.
