Runaway burner!

I’ve recently experienced a burner on this range come on all by itself. The switch was in off position and I could only shut it off by killing power to stove. Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem with all glass top ranges or just a poor design in this one? I think it is odd that a switch going bad would make a burner come on by itself instead of just not working when turned on. I don’t want to repair if this is a common problem, but on the other hand if I buy a new range with the smooth top is it likely to happen again because of the design? Please advise. Thanks.
