I’ve got an older Amana dryer that just started having problems a couple of nights ago.
It will run without stopping, like the timer isn’t working, and doesn’t get hot at all. The night it started acting up we found it after it had been running for 3 hours, and the clothes inside were still wet and cold.
Is there anything specific that I should be looking for that would cause it to act this way? Getting hot is one thing, but the timer issue is puzzling me.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or guidance!

Were you using a timed dry or auto dry cycle?
Nat, thanks for the response. We were using an auto dry cycle.
I think we also tried a timed dry after that with the same results, however I’m not 100% sure on that…
Just an update on current progress - I have checked both the thermal fuse and thermostat for continuity using the instructions posted in this forum and they both appear to be good. I’m now getting ready to take a look at the heating element, which it looks like I’ll have to remove the drum to get to.
Update #2: I got the heating element out and didn’t even need to test it as it had a clear break in the coil. I have just ordered the part (#AP18787) which hopefully will fix the problem…
