self cleaning system makes noise

self cleaning system on my Maytag stove seems to be running constantly making noise ( does not clean). The clock is running so fast. Is there any way to stop the clock and not plug off the stove? What happens if it runs constantly for days or weeks?

A Model Number may help others help you

Also more info will help

self cleaning system on my Maytag stove seems to be running constantly making noise ( does not clean).
The unit is stuck in CLEAN mode but the elements are not heating up.
Is this correct?
Where is the noise coming from and what does it sound like?

The clock is running so fast.
Need more info on this, what exactly is happening?

Not sure what you mean by this

What happens if it runs constantly for days or weeks?
Without further info cannot say

What have you tried if anything?
Have you tried unplugging the unit for half an hour or so, then reconnecting it to see if the clock/mode will reset?

The sound comes from "self cleaning system" dial control panel (clock-off, start, stop). It is buzzing, less noisy than when buzzing for "off-end of the cycle). That buzzing make all dials move - like never ending self cleaning. Except it does not clean. I do not use self cleaning - do not need it, but that buzzing bothers me a lot, it is annoing and I do not know if it can cause any fire hazard. I tried to set " OFF" mode, but it runs anyway. I unplugged from power - after I plugged in - it runs the same. Is there any way to stop it? The oven works OK for baking.

Without a Model Number it is hard to say.
Your description seems to indicate that this is an old unit with a mechanical timer so odds of gettig a replacement are slim.

Perhaps unplugging it, removing the rear cover and then see if you can find out what is buzzing and unplugging it may work but you may loose other functions that you use.

Be careful the stove has 240 volts which is lethal!!!

Where can I find Model Number? I definitely need the other functions. Do you think that buzzing timer may couse any danger?

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help, I just wish you were my neighbour…

One day both oven and broiler stopped working at the same time?

Does the control work?

What happens if you try to input anything?

How are the surface burners working?

We need as much as possible description on the problem.

Gene.

Sorry, yes all controls and stove top burners working as designed.
Thanks, Bill

Hi Gene,
sorry one more thing that may help that I forgot, the oven and broiler did light intermitintley, only twice out of twenty tries before I replaced igniter.

I replaced oven igniter because it sounded like the correct repair, still not working. Two questions, since both the oven and broiler are inop and if both igniters were bad do you have to replace both for one to work. and second question, when wiring oven igniter since the two wires are not colored or identified in anyway does it matter which wire is wired to which?

Bill,

Check for 120 VAC to the Bake igniter while the control calls for Bake and, to the Broil igniter while the control calls for Broil. Post the results.

Bill,

Did you do this simple test?

If you did, what is the result?

I’m not able to do it myself and without it I can not proceed further.

Gene.

I do not have a meter but I can get one, that was why I did not do that test and I hoped replacing the igniter would work since it sounded like the most likely repair and it was over 5 years old. I will do the test and post results, thanks for your help.
