Should Motor Coupling Turn Like This?

Spin cycle would not engage, replaced motor coupler and clutch assembly. Didnt help. Tore down again, notice now that I can hold the tub shaft and turn the motor couple easily both ways without affecting the shaft. Should I be able to do this or is the transmission broke? Has been leaking oil for some time.

When you say "hold the tub shaft", what exactly are you holding? Is the washer agitating and draining ok?

I have the transmission removed, I can turn the coupler shaft both ways independent of the long tub shaft

That’s the agitator shaft. It should rotate back and forth when you turn the input shaft counterclockwise. It may take multiple turns before the agitator gear engages. If it never does, the gearcase is faulty although that particular symptom is very rare. When you rotate the input shaft clockwise, it should rotate the clutch hub. Problems in that area are more common.
