Side by Side Refrigerator fun

Greetings:

We recently purchased this fridge used, it looked great and was a good deal but then we began to notice some things. The center bar between the 2 doors was getting quite hot. I did some research and came up with the compressor fan motor being suspect. I pulled everything out and took off the back panel and the fan never turned on. I placed a small fan behind the fridge and it seemed to help but was not adequate.

So I ordered a new compressor fan motor here, part(AP4069289). Everything hooked up just fine, but the old fan was not compatible with the new motor so I also ordered a new blade (AP4014788) and the correct nut to connect it.

I got everything connected and plugged in, the fan kicks on when the compressor does and seems to do what it should.

Sorry for all the back data but it seemed important.

NOW, with everything back together, I have noticed that the fan seems to pull air through the condenser coil and blow it at the condenser, should it not blow the other way as I have read? Also this seems to cool the condenser down substantially and I started loosing temperature. I didnt notice right away and after about a day, things started thawing in the freezer.

If I plug the old motor back in, I get the heating of the center bar and the fridge works, new motor and fan gets me a dying freezer.

I’m hoping someone can help me shed a little light on this issue, I am pretty mechanically inclined but I don’t have a ton of experience with fridges.

Thanks for any help in advance.

As far as I know the fan should push air through the jelly roll condenser then over the drip tray and out the louvers on the kick plate.

Hopefully someone else will confirm this.

The reason is that the condenser heats the air which helps it evaporate the water in the drip tray. Venting out the front help keep the humidity in the machine compartment down. Also you do not want to blow warm air at the compressor.

Could you have your fan blade on backwards?

That was what I had read and would make sense based on how its all setup down there.

The fan does not seem reversible. It has markings on one side indicating where the nut should be, but both sides of the fan push the same way and the motor only runs one.

Thanks for the help.

I think your model is a MSD not a MSG.

I’m stumped.

Perhaps give the parts people a call.
