Snorkel stuck and will not move up

My Thermador downdraft doesn’t want to raise up when I press the UP button. You hear the motor running or whirling. Called a local appliance service who came out and claims that Thermador doesn’t have the parts anymore so I have to replace it. I found your web site, which gives me hope. Do you know if it’s the gear motor switch or do you think the motor or crank broke? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
