Wash only agitates even in the spin cycles, any suggestions as to what to look for?

Unfortunately I think the thing to look for is a new washer. This is a symptom of a bad transmission, although the timer could be the problem but in either case given the cost of a new, basic top loader with the full year warranty etc I think the better choice is to replace it.
