My over the range microwave just stopped heating food. Everything else works and there is no buzzing noise. Just sounds normal when in use. I was working some yesterday but it was almost at though it was taking longer to cook however now nothing.
Our microwave suddenly stopped heating. It is a ge and 9 years old. I’m hoping that you can tell me what part you think I need to repair it. Thanks Main Floral

Check the power at the outlet. It suppose to be 120 VAC ± 10% under a load. If it’s less then the microwave would not work.
If there is nothing wrong then the problem most likely is a bad magnetron.

What is the complete model number of the microwave?
Does it make any unusual noise? Does the light, the cooling fan and the turntable still work?
Gene.
It is a GE model #JVM1660WB00-3 It does not make any unusual noise and the light and cooling fan still work. Thanks for your help! main floral
Remove the top grill. Open the control panel. Discharge the high voltage capacitor. Remove the wires from the high voltage transformer primary windings and check for 120 VAC between these wires while the control calls for heat and the door is closed.
If there is no proper voltage then the problem most likely is a bad control board.
If there is 120 VAc reading then the magnetron is the culprit.

Thanks Gene… I was thinking about a new microwave over before I read your post. I followed your instructions and it was the magnatron after all. It was questionable since it read ok. However, since I did get the 115V going to the primary side of the transformer. It was either it or the magnatron. Many thanks…Chungster
which red wire goes to the magnatron. thanks main floral
[LEFT][COLOR=#000000]Hello,
I have a Kenmore side by side Model # 106.50582001. The edge of the door on the freezer side gets hot. Noticed that the fan for the compressor and coils is not working. Placed a fan on the floor ,turned it on low , now the door edge is cool again. Does this mean the fan is bad, or the thermostat ? And how would I check this problem out?
Thank you for any info
Chris:confused:

Hello Chris,
The condenser fan motor (next to the compressor) is bad and has to be replaced. No doubt about it.
