Terminal Block Wiring Extension

Recently I had the left side of the terminal block melt off. I have replaced the block and checked the wiring. The 14 gauge wire that attaches to that side has become brittle at the end and will need to be removed. My issue is that in doing that the wire is now too short to reach the connection on the terminal properly. So my question is, can I extend the wire and if so do I need a special type of wire to use or can I just use 14 gauge equivalent with a wire nut.

Thanks for the assistance.

Yes I would use a wire nut and 14 gauge or bigger as the extension wire.
Cut the wire back till you get to nice clean copper.

I would use the wire nuts that have a brass insert with a screw that tightens down in the wires and then the black bakelite (hard plastic) cover screws over it. See the attachment.

Also be sure to clean the other connectors before attaching them to the new terminal block.
