Appreciate any insights!
We have a 20 year old Thermador 27 inch wall oven. Several months ago the display stopped working, however, the oven and brolier continued to work fine --my wife used the beeps when the touch pad was pressed to set the temp and would wait for the oven to click on…
Sunday, the oven and broiler stopped working – no beeps or clicks. It has power and the fuse is good.
I noted from the schematics that there is a primary control board module, display module and the touchpad module on the back of the front cover.
Any suggestions from experience of what parts I should be looking at for the cause (s) of the oven failure?
Thanks
Mike
Hello,
If the touchpad no longer responds to the broil button being pressed, it’s, most likely, the touchpad. There’s no easy way to check, but it’s possible using a couple test points on the back of it.
The control board is the "brain" of the unit, so it processes the information from the TP, but it’s not likely that it would respond to bake and convection, but not broil.
I wouldn’t advise trying to remove the touchpad yourself, do the likely hood of the harness connection, which is soldered onto the back the part, breaking off. It’s always best to have a qualified servicer replace this part.
Also, the SMW’s were made from ~1999 to ~2003, making it less than 20 years old.
