I have a Thermador Rangetop (PRG364GD). We had issues with irratic sparking over some time. Then all sparking stoped. Now the big issues- the rear simmer burner stopped producing gas. Trying to figure out if this is an issue with the potentiometer, the simmer control, or the spark ignighter or all of them? help please.
HI.
Does it spark when you turn it on?
What is the serial number?
Simon.
No. No sparking on any burners. Not sure the SN#. Where do I find the SN tag?
I did confirm that both of the XLO burner solenoids are working by swapping the wires. I have not confirmed the potentiometers are good yet…
Perform the troubleshooting as described in the attached file. Post the results.
Gene.
Should I be measuring between the contact on the Simmer controller? Or between the contact on the molex connect that goes to it?
It says in the instructions "at the simmer control".
Gene.
Ok
on the Spark Module
SW1-N: 0VAC
SW2-N: OVAC
A to N: Couldn’t find A?
So on to Simmer Controller
POT2 to Line5: 0 VDC, negligible
POT1 to Line5: 0 VDC, negligible
Line5 to Line: 0.838VDC
So this suggests that I need to replace the Simmer Controller only.
Can you recommend a Part for that? I looked thru and didn’t see one that looked like what I have? Also, If I do this will I have to replace the potentiometers also?
Thanks
Steve

"A" is marked on the label on the side of the spark module as well as SW. You had to turn the 2 non XLO burners On prior to this test. Did you?
Did you follow the flowchart instructions step by step?
You said:
…Then all sparking stopped…
Did you mean all burners - XLO and regular burners?
Gene.
I turned off the gas at the line, but both burners were indeed on during this test.
When I said all sparking stopped- It was irratic for some time. Now none (XLO or standard) of the 4 burners will spark to ignite. Lighting them by hand.
I followed the flow chart to the extent possible.
- With Seq burners on Hi, I got the results reported above. I could not test A to N, as there is no A on my spark module- see attached photos.
Since all voltages were zero- moved on
Check voltage on Seq channel 1 and 2 to SW? I don’t know what Seq Channel 1 is??? Help with this. So I skipped this step.
Next Step: Measure POT1, and POT2 to Line 5. Both measured zero. Line 5 to Line- measured 0.838VDC.
So what next?
I have attached photos of the spark module and simmer controller.
Looks like these parts had been redesigned a few times and it is impossible to proceed through the whole chain of different part numbers.
I would recommend to order and install the simmer control kit which consists of the simmer controller and two potentiometers.

Thansk for this Gene.
Two questions-
-
If I do this- Do you think my existing molex connectors will match up with this guy?
-
Do you believe I need to replace the potentiometers? If so, it looks like a bare to get them out? Have to take the gas valves off the manifold etc? Is that right?
Openned your link and found the simmer controller but no pots?

Yes, it should because this part number comes up as the search result by your model number.
-
Yes, I do. You have nothing to do with the gas valves. Just remove the front panel.

Don’t worry. They will come too.
Gene.
I am concerned because I have two molex connectors going to my current simmer controller- 1 has 10 lines, the other 4. When I look at the photo on this one- I don’t see any place for the 10-lead connector to go… 2banks of 6, and 1 bank of 3??? Is the photo just not accurate? If I order this and it won’t go, assume they will refund shipping?
Steve
Steve,
Very likely you’ll have to rewire it. The only other option for you is to replace the range.
Gene.
P.S. Any refund questions should be addressed to the APP customer service.
Thanks for this Gene.
On replacing the pots. If I just unscrew the bezels for the 4 gas knobs, adn the one griddle knob- will the whole front control panel be able to be removed? I couldn’t figure how else it was really attached?
The instructions are attached.
Gene.
OK. I pulled off the control nobs and bezels. But I am total unable to access the control panel screws. The procedure attached appeared to have been for the complet range/stove combos. Not for rangetops. Is there something different here? Gotta assume there is someway to access these screws without tinsnips.
Steve
Steve,
Per the model number you provided it is the range.
