[LEFT][COLOR=#000000]I have a Maytag Proforma. Recently, it has become tempermental. It doesn’t seem to want to agitate fast, immediately. I’ll open the lid then close it and it works just fine. Then the spin cycles. It won’t begin a strong drain, immediately. I’ll open the lid then close and it works just fine.
My biggest concern is that when it doesn’t begin to pump the water strongly and it’s filled, the water comes out of an opening at the top of the tub.
Any ideas?

Since you can get it to work by opening and closing the lid I would say the first place to check is the lid switch. See if you can determine if it is working correctly, one way is to by-pass it and see if the problem goes away.
If you need more info please post a model number and tell us what happened when you checked the lid switch.
Sorry it’s taken so long. But, my little problem seems to have become permanent. Opening and closing the lid no longer works. I also noticed that after spinning the tub screatches to a stop. So, now my problem has changed.
Any thoughts?
It could be that the brakes are not fully releasing, which causes your spinning problem and/or the lid switch issue.
I will definitely check the brakes.
Well, looks I don’t have to worry about this machine any longer. Mama decided that she wanted a new one. Well, she bought one. Thanks for all of your information. I would have like to try repairing it myself.
lol, u r so right. Not only was my back turned, but when I finally faced front, I got a right cross 2 the chin.
Thanks for the insight.
