Hi. Pretty sure my torsion spring (one or both) has failed. I guess I was lucky that the glass didn’t fracture but this is maybe still a possibility w/ heat cycle?
Anyways, I’m confused on the part#. I brought up the parts list here for this model# and I get:
38A Microwave door torsion spring - For stainless models. Left hand side. For the right hand side order AP3082257. No color tip. 49.5 - 54.5 lbs torque. Size: 3.50 inches long.
Item Number: AP3137553
Manufacturer’s Number: 4452395 made by WHIRLPOOL
38B Microwave door torsion spring - Right hand side. For the left hand side order AP3137553. No color code on tip.
Item Number: AP3126615
Manufacturer’s Number: 4452398 made by WHIRLPOOL
What is line 38A trying to tell me about the right side? To use AP3082257 in preference to AP3126615 for stainless???
I asked APP via online chat and they told me for stainless that I needed:
38A 4452395 AP3137553
38B 4452398 AP3126615

[seems pretty clear, use 4452396/AP3082257 for the right]

[seems to be for stainless but KEMC377KSS05 is not listed in the cross ref chart]

I’m fairly confused here. Can anyone clarify.
I’ve owned unit since new, over 5 years and this is the first failure. I’ve read a bunch of reports of repeated spring failures and of door not having original tension after springs are replaced … so if there are better springs to use I’d be interested in hearing, read some other threads where KitchenAid had recommended using two medium springs but validity of advice was questioned.
