I have a Maytag Atlantis washing machine purchased in 2004. It quit spinning and the repaiman said it was the transmission and was too costly to repair. When in the spin cycle the pully and belts turn on the bottom but the tub will not spin. I tried to manually turn the agitator also and it will not move. Is it the transmission? Can the transmission be repaired? Should I replce the applaince?
Well since it is turning I don’t see how the repairman diagnosed a transmission problem.
The main reason these models do not spin is the thrust bearing. It is not a difficult repair or costly part, so I would replace it and see if that doesn’t fix things. It will go a lot easier if you have some help. Here is the part.
