Tried it ALL...Ice Maker

Hello all. Been reading all the post and have learned soooooo much. Special thanks to Gene.

Here it goes. Ice maker stopped entirely…No water to ice maker but water to dispenser working.

  1. Deforested fridge…No luck
  2. Pulled ice maker out and inspected… Nothing looks broken
  3. Infrared Sensor flashing twice followed by one… replaced sender and receiver infrared board… No luck
  4. Ran 120v directly to the inlet valve…valve was operational (ruled out)
  5. Replaced fridge filter ($60 at sears, they’ve got nerve)…No luck
  6. Did the wire jump on the ice maker… No Movement hmmmm?
  7. Frequent inspection of ice maker indicates that unit is turning because I’ve seen the fingers in different positions.

Side note: This problem appeared around the same time I serviced my reverse osmosis system that is connected to my fridge with new filters. I later remembered that I never shut the water to the fridge off while the system was being serviced. Did no water going to the fridge for a few hours hurt something??

Having a fridge bashing party this weekend… You’re all invited. Bring ice as I have none for drinks :slight_smile:

the water valve for the icemaker gets power through the icemaker heater – if you apply power to the valve and it works you are giving it full power
the valve may be weak and not opening with the reduced voltage (going through the heater) or the heater may be bad – check to see if you’re getting voltage at the valve when the ice maker cycles also check the big gear on the i/m module there are two tabs in the middle that hold the gear on i’ve seen one of the tabs broken so the fingers on the back of the gear dont contact properly to send power to the valve
