Trouble Shooting...

Hi. We have aWhirlpool refrigerator(~7yrs old) and have been struggling to keep the temperature in theproper range. It frosts and ice collectsin the back of the freezer, blocking the cool air from flowing to the fridgeproperly. First we replaced the running capacitorand that didn’t fix it. We then orderedthe heating coil for the defroster. Whenwe went to replace it, it was the wrong part. We also have replaced the thermostat. It clicks as though it is tryingto turn on/off. What do you recommend?

That’s a defrost problem caused by either the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat, or the control board.

First you need to get a VOM (Volt Ohm Meter) and familiarize yourself with the way it works. Throwing parts at it hoping one will fix it will get real expensive, real fast.

Just exactly what is clicking? If it’s the start device on the compressor, remove it and shake it. If it rattles it’s bad and you should replace it.
