Turning off freezer compartment without turning off refrigerator

We’ve had a problem with ice build-up in the freezer – the drain hole is likely clogged and ice has built up behind the back panels of the freezer compartment’s interior. We need to shut off the freezer compartment so the ice can melt off. This will probably take 12-24 hours.

Can we do this easily without turning off the entire refrigerator? The temperature control will only allow the temp to go as high as -15F. We would like to keep the refrigerator side operational if possible.

Thanks!

That is not possible. Unplug the fridge, keep the fresh food door shut & speed things along with a hair dryer or a heat gun on the freezer side.

Thanks for your advice and suggestion to use heat source to speed the ice melting!
