i have a direct drive washer. The lid switch works. the washer fills and drains fine. The washer does not agitate or spin, but there is a "humming" noise during the cycle when it is supposed to drain. There in no belt on this washer. Any suggestions? I am handy enough that if I know what to look for and have a diagrma how to get to it, I can fix it.
Hi.
Please make it clear:
Does the washer drains?
The sound during the spin is that the motor running?
Does the motor runs during the agitation?
If the motor runs but no spin or agitation - replace the motor coupling [part]285753A[/part]
Post the results.
Simon.
The washer drains fine. During agitation, the motor to turn the agitator seems to come on because i hear a sound, but it is not agitating. It sounds like it is jammed for lack of a better term. And during the spin cycle, when again the motor comes on I hear the same sound. The tub does not spin either
thanks
Hi.
Check the motor coupling-replace if broken.
Simon.
Thanks Simon - I watched the video and this seems not too hard if I can get the top to flip over. Do all top loader washers basically come apart the same way; flip the top over, release 2 clips, and tilt the cabinet forward? The video seems to follow exactly my washer parts list shows. Let’s assume the motor coupling appears ok, do you have another thing to do next?
I appreciate the help and if the coupling is bad, i will purchase through APP for all your help.
Scott
Lets go step by step, check the coupling.
Simon.
Ok Simon - I took apart the coupling assembly. The plastic fitting that goes on the gearcase is intact and not coming off easily, so I am leaving that in. The rubber part is not worn, and the other plastic par tthat fits on the motor shaft appear to be good, however it seems to be a little loose on the motor shaft. I ordered the part to be sure. They will arrive by Friday and I’ll install it.
Can you recommend the grease/lubricant that goes around the motor shaft into the plastic coupling?
thanks
Hi.
Do not use any lubricants on the motor shaft.
While the washer is a part I need you to install the jumper between 2 outer contacts in the lid switch plug and with the motor out but safely positioned and hooked up turn the washer to spin.
Does the motor runs?
Simon.
Hi Simon - yes, the motor turned when jumpered out. I put the coupling together and everything now works. How can I thank you and APP enough, I cannot. It cost me $10 for the part, $12 to ship it, and I probably saved $130 from the estimate given by the repair company when i asked "How much to replace a motor coupling". I want to thank you for you time and help, especially the video which explained everything needed, and how to put a new coupling in. It was so easy, I may do it again just for fun!!!
Is there some way I can a note to your boss and give you and the company an "Atta Boy"? I would gladly write somethign formal for all the time you spent on this and how clear and accurate everything was, and how the part came when expected.
Thanks Again Simon
Scott
It’s my pleasure, Scott.
I’m glad you fixed the problem.
Thank you for kind words, my boss knows that I’m the best:)
Simon.
