Washer Motor Burnt?

Clothes have been out very damp of late. Replaced the drive belt. Continued to have problems. Started smelling plastic burning. Washer stopped working shortly after. Loud buzzing noise and heavy electrical burning smell. Opened up the unit, drained water. Electrical motor pulley very hard to turn, likely burnt out. The agitator pulley will spin free in one direction and catches and turns the transmission in the other. Water pump spins freely with no noise. How can I make sure the transmission is in good order before I spend the money on a new motor? Is there a way to test the motor once it is out of the washer?

Put the motor back in without the belt and operate the machine with the front panel off. This should tell you if the motor can handle a load.
