My Kenmore 80-series top-load washer is designed to drain the tub and then spin. It has run that way for over 12 years. Recently, at the end of the normal wash cycle, it has randomly begun spinning too soon when the tub is still full of water. Half the time, spinning starts simultaneously with the drain cycle, and half the time it drains first, then spins (which is how it should be). This is making the motor sound very over-worked when it tries to spin a tub full of water and clothes. Any ideas before the motor burns itself out?
Thank you!
Very common problem on direct drive washers. The motor can handle it. The only real worry is if it spins any water over the top on full loads. If not, I wouldn’t worry about it. Otherwise, you would need to replace the neutral drain parts (comes in a kit) in the transmission or replace the transmission. I can provide part numbers if you give the full model number of the washer.
