I was on my third load of the day and my washer filled with water and went through the wash cycle and then it just stopped. It would not drain or spin no matter what I did. We vacuumed all the water out and it still will not spin or drain. What could be wrong with it. I know its pretty old but I would like to fix it if its worth it.
Hi Juliet
If the machine will still agitate then the likely problem is the lid switch. By pass it and see if the machine will spin in spin mode. Here is a site that will show you how (Yes, Kenmore, Whirlpool and Roper are all the same)

If that does not do the trick, let us know if you hear the motor running and if the machine will fill and agitate. (Note, if you let it fill you do not have to bail it out, just lower the drain hose into a bucket and the water will siphon out)
Ok, what you are saying is that the machine will fill with water, but will not agitate, and if you move the timer to the end of the cycle it will not drain, and will not spin. However, you hear the motor running.
Normally your problem would indicate that the motor coupliing is broken, but that would not stop the machine from draining. What I suggest you do at this point is take off the cabinet and take off the pump (water will come out so be prepared). Inspect the pump and see if it is ok, and then take off the motor and inspect the coupling.
Let us know what you find out. Here is a video that will show you how to do this if you need help.
