Washer wont wash

Hello’ this is my first time here… I have a problem mabey someone can help with. My wife went to wash clothes and the washer tub wont wash. You hear the motor running but no agitation , it still drains but no spin cycle either. So I took the clothes out and turn the tub by hand. Now it spins freely to the left, but try to spin it to the right it wont move can anyone help???

As a first step, take off the front panel by inserting a putty knife or screw driver in the gap between the top and the front at each edge and releasing clips. The front panel will not swing out.

You will now be able to observe if the belt is broken, which we hope is the case as it is the lesser problem in terms of cost and ease of repair.

If it is not, see if you can turn the pulley on the transmission in each direction. Let us know what you find out.

Good luck.

The belt is not broken, but there is a chunk missing from it. Now what I did was put the washer on spin, I had to move the belt a little bit to make the tub spin, but the belt is loose. So if it is the belt where would I be able to purchase it from, and how do I go about replacing it? Thanks in advance…

Here is the belt. You can order it from this site or buy it from any local appliance parts store.

You will have to take off the motor to replace the belt. Here is a service manual which should take you through the process. It is a one person job, but I recommend having a friend because the motor is heavy and awkward to take off and put back on.

Good luck

I went out and bought the belt, put it on and it"s working great now … Thanks for all your help…

I put the new belt on, then reinstalled the pump and motor, and the washer is washing now. But this time there is a grinding noise, is this because the belt is new, or did I install the belt wrong…

Noises are very difficult for us to diagnose because we are not there to hear the type of noise and where it is coming from.

I doubt if you put the belt on incorrectly, because I think it can only go on one way.

The noise is not likely in the motor, but take off the belt and operate the machine in spin mode with the front off and listen to see if there is any sound from the motor. Then put the belt on and listen to see if the pump or the idler is the problem.

If not, the problem is in the pulley/transmission area and unless there is something obvious I would put it back together and see if the noise will work itself out. If you are going to damage something, well, you are no worse off than replacing parts which may or may not fix it.

Good luck, hope it works out.
